Merck & Prevention Access Campaign Host Free Webinar to Address HIV in Young, Black America

Merck & Prevention Access Campaign Host Free Webinar to Address HIV in Young, Black America
Posted By: Will Moss on November 02, 2020

Dear HBCU COMMUNITY,

We’re working to end the HIV epidemic among young adults in the U.S. and we want you to join us.

On November 18th at 12-1pm ET, Merck and Prevention Access Campaign are hosting Owning HIV Presents: HIV in Young, Black America, a free LIVE and on-demand webinar and Q&A to discuss HIV among young adults in the U.S., with particular focus on the Black and African American community, which is disproportionately impacted by HIV. The session will be led by HIV/Human Rights activist, Deondre Moore, and will also feature a diverse panel of young, influential HIV advocates from across the country.

We need your support.
The fear of disclosing sexual behaviors or sexual orientation can prevent people from seeking care. As a result, some Black and African Americans may lack critical information about HIV prevention. Together, we can fight stigma and take ownership of the HIV epidemic.

We invite you and others within your network to join us as community leaders at the forefront of this urgent public health crisis and to take part in addressing these societal challenges around HIV.

Why this matters.
There are a number of factors facing the Black and African American community that can create barriers to receiving HIV education. Racial discrimination, socioeconomic disparity, lack of access to health care, and higher rates of incarceration are all contributing factors. Young adults now account for a majority of new HIV diagnoses in the U.S., and Black/African Americans remain the most impacted compared to all other races and ethnicities in the country.

It’s up to us to change the trajectory of #HIV in the U.S. Join a discussion and Q&A on November 18th with Deondre Moore, @PreventionAC, @Merck and HIV activists to educate, empower and mobilize young Americans to own the future of HIV: https://rb.gy/ekffnf #OwningHIV
