Need a Summer Job? 4 Ideas for Work Between College Semesters

Need a Summer Job? 4 Ideas for Work Between College Semesters
Posted By: Dixie Somers on April 16, 2021

Having extra time between college semesters can be an opportunity for earning money. Besides this, you have the chance to acquire skills and have new experiences. You also don't have to waste your days being lazy on the couch. If you need a summer job, here are some ideas.

Bookstore Sales Associate

Working at a bookstore is a dream job for almost every book lover. In fact, you'll be surrounded by shelves upon shelves of books. As a bookstore sales associate, you might receive discounts, be able to check out new releases, recommend the staff pick that goes out front, and organize the books. On your breaks, you may even get to read your own book.

Plant Nursery Associate

Working in a peaceful environment full of plants can be highly beneficial to your health and well-being. For example, plants can be great stress reducers, release oxygen into the air, and lower levels of anxiety. At a plant nursery, you'll be the person who helps customers choose the right plant to take home.

Truck Driver

If you prefer to get out of an office, consider becoming a truck driver. This is a job you don’t necessarily have to commit to outside of summer months.

Look for CDL truck driver positions available and get proper training to operate commercial trucks.

Lifeguard

There are those who have dreams of being a movie star, or maybe saving peoples' lives gives you a sense of purpose. Indeed, becoming a lifeguard can give you the opportunity to spend time in the sun and ensure the safety of those enjoying their day on the beach. Before applying, it's important to be aware that some pools offer CPR training when they hire you while others require you to acquire it beforehand.

Nanny

For someone who loves taking care of children, being a nanny could be a top position. Nannies are often natural caretakers who work well with kids. Further, you can make snacks for them and eat a few delicious treats yourself. Although it can be tough taking care of children, enjoying it can make it worthwhile.

Not only can having a summer job help you make money, it might also lead to future opportunities. For instance, working at a bookstore might inspire you to become an author. Additionally, consider applying for jobs that relate to your degree, so you have a better idea of what you're getting into. And, who knows, the summer job you pick might end up helping you understand that you need to take a more promising career path.
