GE Appliances Launches Scholarship Program with UNCF!
Posted By: Will Moss on October 05, 2021 GE Appliances, a Haier company (GEA) is excited to announce that we are partnering with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to support students attending select Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country. “One of our focus areas within community engagement is to really think about how we support the community, but also help drive some of our business goals. So sponsorship and purchasing tables, while they are good community support, it’s not always a direct impact; so we're looking at how do we make a direct impact,” says Katina Whitlock, Senior Manager, Community Engagement, who played a critical role in solidifying the partnership. In looking to drive a direct impact, and inspire the next generation of makers and creators, GEA has established a UNCF scholarship fund that will provide support for students attending:
The scholarship program's intent is to promote opportunity, equity, and inclusion among underrepresented groups and to create a pool of highly educated, well-trained individuals with the qualifications to apply for potential future positions at GE Appliances. The scholarship will support GEA's recruitment team in selecting and recruiting talented and skilled sophomores and juniors attending HBCUs, majoring in engineering, supply chain, computer science and business. If interested, students will also be eligible to submit applications for paid internships and co-ops. The scholarships will be broadly communicated this fall and awarded during the Spring Semester 2022. GEA plans to formally announce the scholarship as part of the company's support of UNCF's Louisville Mayor's Virtual Luncheon in September, where Jason Brown, GEA’s Vice President and General Counsel, a graduate of Howard University, will be a featured HBCU alum, representing GEA. In addition to Jason, GEA currently employees several other alumni from HBCU partner institutions. Be sure to follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter for more news and updates from GE Appliances.
