Advertising Product Manager

Advertising Product Manager

Hearst Newspaper is looking for a Senior Product Manager to help create advertising product revenue strategies across Hearst newspaper brands. This role will understand IAB standards and best practices, they will actively research the latest advertising products to create innovative advertising solutions leveraging the latest in adtech and Hearst digital assets.

Support will also include vertical category innovation with the first category focus is Real Estate but also include entertainment, health and more. The goal is to leverage assets of Hearst to develop robust programs you can only get through Hearst by leveraging content, audience data and experiential programming.

Collaboration is essential as this position will work cross-functionally across the business units. Key Stakeholders include the New York Central Digital team and all Hearst Newspapers teams including Sales Management, Editorial Marketing, Ad Operations, and Finance.


  • Assist in the prioritization of product roadmap and initiatives grounded by research, shifts in market trends, the competitive landscape, regulation and customer behavior.

  • Create and execute the product plan that includes solving short-term needs, garners current opportunity and leap frog’s competitors through innovation.

  • Illustrate the ideas through presentation materials and prioritize the opportunity.

  • Communicate and refine requirements with the development team, and successfully guide product design, implementation, and testing.

  • Rigorously focused on delivering product design deliverables according to project milestones and release schedules

  • Drive core advertising product enhancements and innovation necessary to maximize growth opportunity and become the leader in the market category

  • Identify partner opportunities to drive scale, innovate and enhance programs and create downstream revenue opportunities, including new audiences, content, and partnerships.

  • Monitor and analyze key performance metrics as well as identify and measure the impact of new features.

  • Track product performance, success metrics, and develop KPI’s and monthly reporting.


  • Experience in project & product management (preferably with a media or consumer internet company) working with platforms for web, video, mobile, email, and social media

  • Previous content and or sales experience a plus

  • A demonstrated ability to translate user needs into business and product requirements

  • Must work well in a team and drive collaboration between executive sponsors, UX team, business requests and development teams

  • An ability to analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, and scope product requirements

  • An ability to think creatively and strategically, with a corresponding ability to execute strategies

  • Ability to perform analysis then defend findings to drive business decisions

  • Results oriented, accountable, strong work ethic

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skill

  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills


What you will do:

  • Work with the Sales and Analytics division to build roadmaps and prioritize customer concerns

  • Work closely with development and content teams to provide seamless digital user experience and advertising delivery across desktop, mobile, and native app O&O platforms.

  • Develop the next generation of online advertising features on the Hearst Newspapers platforms

  • An understanding of advertising technologies, including SSPs/DSPs, Ad Mediation, and Ad Targeting

  • Run experiments and pilot tests to evaluate viability of potential new advertising products.

  • Have a Deep understanding of ad tech and the measurement space, including direct response and brand advertising

  • Have a Deep understanding of Nielsen measurement offerings including Brand studies powered by Nielsen

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering business outcomes and/or products that move the needle on revenue opportunities in all our Newspaper Markets.

  • Educate Sales team about new products and Create marketing collateral to use in the field. 

What to Bring:

  • 3+ years in product management experience with building and delivering successful products, services and capabilities.

  • Experience handling media analytics and insights products

  • Experience with web, mobile and web tagging technologies, third party data providers and integrations

  • Excellent communication and persuasion skills; demonstrated success building buy-in for an innovative and bold vision
