Committing a minimum of 10 hours a week on a regular, mutually agreeable schedule for one semester, the Communications and Digital Engagement Associate (Intern) supports the Integrate Public Relations Department in the San Antonio, TX office. The Intern will assist with internal communications by producing content and photography for a bi-weekly newsletter, handling inquiries and media metrics, and other projects as assigned. Also, the intern will assist with social media tagging, tracking, data reporting, and keeping our Flickr account up to date with the latest event photographs. The Intern reports to the Communications Manager. Additionally, this position will support the development and implementation of Operation Homefronts new diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. All interns will complete and present a brief post-internship report on their experiences, which will be shared with key Operation Homefront staff and partners, as well as senior leadership. Interns will complete weekly reports on their activity to be submitted to their supervisors.
Write articles as assigned for the bi-weekly newsletter and assist with editing newsletter submissions
Photograph staff and events as directed
Draft and schedule social media content and help promote OH posts through tagging, likes, and shares
Collaborate with staff on new ideas, upcoming campaigns and help research effective strategies
Contribute to the Operation Homefront blog
Help with weekly tagging, tracking, and social media data reporting
Explore various career possibilities in the Integrated Public Relations field and learn the best internal communications practices of a national non-profit; learn the best social media practices
Build on classroom knowledge, to learn those disciplines, skills, and attitudes which can best or only be learned on the job, especially self-discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and initiative.
Strengthen the students portfolio with practical experience and projects by creating a portfolio of articles and/or other materials completed during the internship
o Strategy, timing, and development of content for social media
o Social media messaging that targets specific audiences
o Social media campaign implementation from start to finish
o Analyze reach and engagement data to understand the overall social impact
Successful candidates will be:
Enrolled full time or part-time at an accredited college or university interested in pursuing a career in a communications field
Pursuing or holding a degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Advertising, or Public Relations
Familiar with AP Style; prominent social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others
Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Capable of working with Adobe Suite and/or Google Analytics (desired, not required).
Interested in non-profit management and/or military families
Ability to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week on a regular, mutually agreeable schedule
Ability to work remotely with a stable internet connection for the entire duration of the internship
Excellent critical thinking, research, and organizational skills
Strong writing, content creation, and editing skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to speak knowledgeably about assigned tasks and to be vocal about challenges that may arise during the completion
Engaged, willing to learn, and come every day with a great attitude to support an amazing mission.
Flexible and adaptable style; Interest in participating in a wide range of projects
Has the ability and confidence to engage with others at varying levels of an organization, both internally and externally
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; must be organized and efficient in the management of projects and tasks
A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
Candidates seeking to complete the internship for academic credit will be preferred. Candidate must coordinate with Operation Homefront, the respective college or university, and professor(s) for course credit if desired

The selected candidate must clear a criminal background check before commencing the internship
