The UHealth Facilities & Operations Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Executive Director to work in Miami, FL.
The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing the safety, maintenance and the day to day functions of facilities operations to ensure quality service for both internal and external customers of the University of Miami Medical Campus and outlying health care Satellites.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Advises appropriate managing staff of short- and long-term changes necessary to keep facilities in physical compliance with regulatory demands. Maintains documentation in proper order for state and local regulatory inspections. Advances and enforces operational procedures and best practices, ensuring staff compliance. Ensures all work areas meet quality, safety, and compliance standards. Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, implements and monitors controls.

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field preferred, Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred.
Certification and Licensing:
Professional Engineer preferred, Certified Energy Manager preferred.
Minimum 15 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Organizational and leadership skills required to supervise staff.
Extensive knowledge of facilities planning, capital and operating budget development, facilities operations and maintenance, and/or facilities management in a Medical School setting.
Knowledge of Facilities Maintenance Programs.
Strong regulatory knowledge of Joint Commission (JC) Environment of Care standards, Life Safety, ACHA, Florida Building Codes, and other applicable industry or regulatory standards.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with campus and department managers, staff and consultants.
Knowledge of building HVAC systems, including both pneumatic controls and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.
Knowledge of computer applications in facilities operations and administrative management; contract law and laws governing facilities operations including environmental protection, occupational safety and human accommodations, etc.
Knowledge of business and management principles.
Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.

Department Specific Functions
This position exercises management responsibility over the facilities maintenance, work of approximately 83 employees in support of 5.6 million square feet including 568,000 Sq. Ft of leased space on 72 acres on the Medical Campus and a budget in excess of $��25,000,000.
This position is essential and considered a tier 1 position under the University Declared Emergency, Employee Responsibilities, and Compensation Policy.

The Executive Director for Facilities and Operations reports to the Assistant Vice President, Facilities and Operations for the University Of Miami Health System.
Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Administer oversight for all aspects of facilities maintenance and operations to include management of a staff of approximately 100 persons, including skilled maintenance personnel, administrative and support staff.
Evaluates, develops and implements departmental policies, goals and objectives, and standards of work performance for the maintenance and repair of non-patient care equipment; buildings and building systems including equipment that provides air conditioning, heating, steam, hot water and electricity. Monitors and confirms these processes are completed in compliance with codes, laws, standards, and manufacturer recommendations.
Coordinates and assures compliance of a portion of facility and life safety rel ated requirements of the Joint Commission, CMS, State and other regulatory agencies including all inspection, maintenance, polices, and documentation. Coordinates life safety measures throughout the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine, including Hospitals (UMHC/SCCC, Bascom Palmer and Satellite Clinics).
Work directly with the Assistant Vice President, Facilities Operations to establish and implement short and long range departmental goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies and operating procedures.
The Executive Director, Facilities Operations works closely with the Assistant Vice President for Facilities Operations and the Executive Director of Utilities and Energy Management on customer service, timely notification of utility outages or interruptions, and day to day operations and maintenance.
Collaborate and participate in meetings, discussions and planning with all departments within Facilities, Operations & Planning when necessary to include: Planning, Design and Construction, Emergency Management, Real Estate, Space Management, Parking & Transportation, University Architect, Human Resources and Budget & Finance.
Conducts audits to determine the cost benefits of various implemented maintenance programs and the feasibility of instituting new policies to maximize revenue and decrease expenditures.
Maintain and implement the UHealth Emergency Management plan when deemed necessary as it relates to facility operations.
Ensures that Facilities and Operation has a diverse staff with skills appropriate to the needs of the position through people management activities including hiring, separation of employment, ongoing staff development and performance management.
The Executive Director may attend meetings at the Medical School to represent the Assistant Vice President for Facilities and Operations at his/her request.
