Adventure Director of East Africa Natural Habitat Adventures (Nat Hab), a Boulder, Colorado-based adventure travel company focused on nature and wildlife, is seeking an Adventure Director for East Africa safari programs. The Adventure Director is a member of the Adventure Operations team, the department that coordinates all logistics behind Nat Hab’s global slate of trips. This position is primarily responsible for the complete planning and execution of trips in Nat Hab’s East Africa portfolio, working closely with third-party partners, field staff and other members of the department. RESPONSIBILTIES Oversee a destination team, including both office and field staff, to run successful trip operations Develop, organize and operate Nat Hab’s trip itineraries to the highest possible standards Liaise and negotiate with operators and/or vendors to manage all trip logistics and required reservations such as hotel nights, restaurants, trip activities, permits and transportation Manage trip pricing and gross margin for programs. Monitor sales performance and successfully manage trip inventory, acquiring or releasing dates as bookings dictate Create contracts and negotiate pricing with ground operators, vessel owners and other key partners Responsible for sourcing, interviewing, and hiring new field staff in conjunction with HR/Field Staff team as needed Provide support for field staff, helping to ensure trip quality and safety Manage Nat Hab gear purchases for and branding in the field Review and approve invoicing from partners/vendors Ensure field staff are prepared with pre-trip instructions and complete traveler-related information Act as a problem-solver for Expedition Leaders, field staff and operators/vendors as required to address issues/concerns pre, during and post-trip, including evenings and weekends when required Act as a resource for in-house Adventure Specialist, Concierge and Guest Services colleagues regarding trip-specific information such as itinerary, hotel, meal and transportation Provide content for and maintain digital and print marketing materials in conjunction with the Marketing team Organize, build and ensure the complete accuracy of dates, pricing and other key trip details in our CRM software and on the Nat Hab website Continually review and implement feedback from guests and field staff to improve future departures Ensure partners are compliant in terms of risk management, contracts, insurance and other details Assist in the planning and execution of field staff training retreats locally and around the world Be on site as needed at various East Africa destinations where we operate The position may include other responsibilities and opportunities not listed above and is sure to require non-office-hour work COMPENSATION Salary Range: $72,500 - $87,500, plus annual bonus. Compensation commensurate with experience. This position comes with generous PTO and paid holidays. Benefits include Site Inspection on Nat Hab trips, pro deals on outdoor clothing and an onsite fitness facility. Eligibility for medical insurance, participation in 401(k) with company match and parental leave after a predetermined period of time. This is a full-time, exempt position. TRAVEL In addition to having two weeks of Site Inspection time on Nat Hab trips when one is a participant on a scheduled program, the Adventure Director should be based in the desired region or expect to travel many additional weeks per year to set up programs, build field knowledge, improve trip itineraries, potentially develop new programs, and build rapport with partners around the world. It is preferred that this will be a Colorado-based position, however, should we determine to hire a remote candidate they would generally be expected to attend three to four (or more) annual multi-day-long retreats, meetings and/or company gatherings in Boulder, Colorado. Staff may also be required to come to the office multiple times throughout the year to prepare for upcoming seasons. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS At least four to six years of experience in a logistics/operations-related role in the travel industry is required Prior on-the-ground logistics experience is preferred Experience operating East Africa travel programs preferred Able to travel internationally multiple times per year (potentially 4-6 times) as needed Must be extremely organized and detail-oriented; able to prioritize and efficiently manage multiple tasks, consistently meeting scheduled deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills that enable working effectively with a variety of partners in our office and around the world Enjoy adapting to new priorities and deadlines in a rapid-paced and fast-changing environment Able to excel working both individually and as part of a team Computer database software experience is a plus (or the ability to learn quickly).
